River
Heads is a short scenic drive from Hervey
Bay passing through Booral. The last few
kilometres of road travels parallel to
Fraser Island and the views are
breathtaking. The Kingfisher Bay barge and
the Fraser Venture barge both depart from
River Heads to Fraser Island. You
can enjoy a picnic lunch at the point or a
barbecue at the Progress Park. There is
now a Shopping Village with Hair Salon,
Cafe (best views of the river systems), SPA supermarket,
Fitness Centre, Real Estate Office and
Bottleshop. There is Security Parking for Fraser Island visitors and a proposed marina.
The boat ramps are suitable for launching
a wide range of boats and there is ample
car parking provided for cars and
trailers. The rock fishing at River Heads
is excellent and if you are an avid
angler, you won't want to miss the fishing
there.
Dolphins, including the rare humpback
dolphin, turtles and the occasional dugong provide an ideal backdrop to any
family outing.
Vehicle permits for the island are
available at the Barge Ticket Office, situated right at
the point in River
Heads.
