Parks,
Gardens and Foreshores

As
well as providing habitat for plants and
animals, the foreshore reserves and parks
form part of an open space network for
outdoor recreational enjoyment. Throughout
these foreshore reserves you may encounter
many species of native birds, animals and
a variety of trees, shrubs and other
fauna.
Hervey Bay has a huge population of Flying
Fox with the colony at Pialba estimated at
up to a million at times. It's an awesome
sight watching them take to the air just
after sunset every evening as they fill
the sky as far as the eye can see and you
can hear the flapping of their wings.
There are a number of new and innovative
parks in Hervey Bay like the Skate Park in
Pialba which is proving to be very
popular. Below is a list of some of the
Hervey Bay parks and gardens available.

Park - Flinders Outlook - Urangan |
| Dayman
Park offers excellent views across the
Great Sandy Straights to Woody Island and
Fraser Island. There are steps down to the
beach below, you can view the memorials,
there are covered BBQ areas, an excellent
playground for the children, basketball
hoop and a large playing field. |

Park - Torquay |
| Organ
Park is located on the esplanade at
Torquay. This recently renovated
beachfront landscaped park is in a handy
position for visitors offering full
facilities including a large playground,
showers and BBQ area. There's a sandpit
for the kids, and disabled access to
Torquay beach via a boardwalk. |

Park - Scarness |
| Apex
Park is located on the esplanade near Toan
Toan Creek. It's an ideal area to view the
nearby local flying fox colony. The
playground equipment includes a climbing
ship and large sandpit. There are BBQ
faciloities, toilets and plenty of shady
grassed area. |

| Botanical
Gardens - Urangan |
| The
Sandy Straits Botanic Gardens (pictured
above) are located
in Elizabeth Street in Urangan. There are
walking trails, bird feeding, the Bush
Chapel for weddings, a Bush Tucker garden,
an Orchid House and a rainforest area.
This is an ideal park for picnics whilst
enjoying the beautiful, natural surrounds. |

| Gatakers
Bay - Point Vernon |
| On
the western edge of Hervey Bay, this park
is a quiet location to view the beautiful
sunsets of Hervey Bay. There is a large
area of natural beachfront vegetation
where you can relax, have a BBQ or throw
in a line. |

| Arkarra Restaurant and Balinese Tea Gardens |
Now the number one eco-tourist destination after Fraser Island and whale
watching - and admission is absolutely free.
A photographer and birdwatchers paradise, Arkarra's 30 acres of subtropical rainforest lagoons and meandering walking trails are home to
native animals and more than 170 species of birds.
You can also feed the huge school of freshwater fish and turtles.

new Skate Bowl on Torquay Road in Pialba
currently offers both a junior and senior
skate bowl for bikes, rollerblades and
skateboards. The venue has proved
extremely popular for Hervey Bay's youth
since it's opening in February 2002. |

| Besides
being located at one of Hervey Bay's
finest beaches, the Scarness foreshore has
a modern playground, seats, BBQ areas,
toilets and beach access. |
